DesignCat in Codex

Configure remote MCP access or use the DesignCat workflow plugin from its source package.

Connect directly through MCP

Add the following to your Codex MCP configuration:

[mcp_servers.designcat]
url = "https://api.designcat.io/api/v1/mcp"

Then authenticate the connection:

codex mcp login designcat

For a personal key, set bearer_token_env_var = "DESIGNCAT_API_KEY" in the server entry and set that environment variable privately. Never put an account key into a plugin package or shared prompt.

Source plugin installation

If you have a checkout of the DesignCat source package, its marketplace manifest can install the bundled workflow skill and MCP configuration:

codex plugin marketplace add /absolute/path/to/checkout
codex plugin add designcat@designcat

Enable the plugin and authenticate when prompted. Invoke its designcat skill for account workflows. These are source-package instructions, not a claim of availability in a public hosted marketplace. The compatibility layout was verified in the repository with Codex CLI 0.162.1; check your client’s current plugin support when installing.

First useful task

Ask Codex to read the DesignCat workflow guide, list image models and explain the exact parameters and cost for your intended output. Submit a generation only when you are ready to spend credits. Review every saved output in Studio.
